HOLIDAYS ARE OVER
August 25 2018ARTIFICIAL GLASS FIBERS
August 29 2018Today we are republishing an interview with Dr. Renato Pilutti, very useful and timely:
The PREVENTION AND PROTECTION SERVICE MANAGER must be considered a resource and not an enemy to be fought.
This reflection is from a friend, as well as an important person in the regional context and beyond.
This is finally starting to be the background "noise" that I am hearing within companies.
It is a resource for the company, because it is on their side, and it is a resource for the workers, because it is on their side.
WIN WIN is the final result, if the role is recognized and "used" in the appropriate way. This cultural change abroad has already happened or is happening.
Authoritativeness, respect, role recognition, are the words that I have perceived abroad, in the various discussions I have had with counterparts.
Let's hear from the HSE, let's ask the HSE, if the HSE says so, before making any decisions. This is the correct cultural approach, having understood that it is precisely the title attributed that imposes it: PREVENTION AND PROTECTION SERVICE MANAGER.
The RSPP is not Pico della Mirandola, but he is the one who must ask the questions and seek the answers. If he doesn't have them, they must be sought in individual specialists and individual skills. We remind you that it DOES NOT HAVE financial resources and has NO operational tasks.
The continuation of my article are short interviews on the topic with important figures.
Here is the first, to a profile who has worked and works with very important companies, which intend to be a small contribution for those who practice this profession.
Dr. Renato Pilutti, expert in management consultancy, organization and human resources, theologian and philosopher, author of several essays of a socio-political and philosophical nature, teacher of ethical-anthropological and organizational disciplines for various companies of international importance.
How should an organization behave with the RSPP in the face of a dramatic event?
First of all, it must be almost a "single body" with this very important figure, not only in terms of human solidarity under the psychological and moral profile, which is - in my opinion - implicit, given the "exposition" of the role we are talking about here, but in fact, supporting it in every way with internal structures and any specialized, technical and legal consultancy. He must then support him for every eventuality and operational step that arises and in which the RSPP is involved...
What recurring errors should be avoided?
I would say that we must absolutely avoid looking for scapegoats, among which the temptation could be to include the RSPP. In these situations it is necessary that all the company's energies and skills (knowledge) are cohesive and united in order to address the problem generated by the accident or injury, because if this were not the case the company would run the risk of further exposing itself to third parties and towards the relevant public institutions, but also to be less effective in response actions, behavior correction and reclamation of the plant engineering part. Immediately afterwards we must avoid accusing what has been done, for example the training and structuring of the prevention and protection service, as if they were two intrinsic elements of weakness, and instead dedicate all the company's energies and resources to the search for improvement of the relevant policies and practices.
What suggestions would you like to give to the RSPP so as not to suffer from this perceived isolation?
To "stay calm", if he can, trying to rationalize the event, because, if he/she has a clear conscience from an ethical, deontological and professional point of view, what happened derives from objective events that escape direct responsibility , technical and operational role, i.e. they are generated by the carelessness, inattention and superficiality of others, of the operators, for example. And, if you still feel troubled, especially in the case of a non-trivial injury, ask for help and support from company management and your friends, why not?
How can fate be balanced, with laws that impose a predictive capacity on the RSPP like Merlino, without him being marked with a negative label in the company?
I don't know if we can talk about fate, destiny or chance... maybe even yes, because we human beings need to give a "name and surname" to what escapes our control or to what we don't understand the causal links of / effect: our mind has always been made like this, so much so that even our ancestors (the Egyptians, the Greeks, the Romans etc.) needed to explain things with the names we mentioned above.
In all existential events, and therefore in those concerning work, we must only try to be calm with our awareness of having done the best, both in terms of knowledge and constant commitment and shared attention to what falls under our duties. We cannot do anything else except, for those who believe, pray to God to always send us good luck.
Thank you Dr. Pilutti
See you on the next episode
